“When life gets you down do you wanna know what you’ve gotta do? Just keep swimming,” is José Martinez’s favorite line from a movie. If you know José, you know he sticks to his favorite movie line to “just keep swimming” to make his dreams a reality. José graduated from a technical high school in the Dominican Republic in the Industrial Electrician trade. In college, Jose started studying civil engineering in the Dominican Republic, but during his second year, he received a baseball scholarship at Union County College in Cranford, NJ, where transferred to and decided to study architecture. In the last five years before joining our team at ProGroup, José gained over two years of professional experience as a customer service representative and an electrician helper in the Dominican Republic, and for the past three years, he gained experience as a commercial and residential painter in NYC. As a Job Site Supervisor for our Walgreens RAD program, José is responsible for overseeing the construction activities that take place during conversions from planning, organizing and supervising the contractors and staff, to maintaining a safe work environment for our crews and client’s staff and customers. José’s favorite things to do when he is not working include playing baseball and basketball and spending time with his family.

As one of our Walgreens BTE/CET Job Site Supervisors, Forest Hall, is always on the go supervising sites and providing support to our office staff and clients. One of the most interesting jobs that Forest had before joining ProGroup was working close to a whopping 94 hours per week as a door-to-door salesman for an educational company. Because he was constantly on the go at that job, you can bet he was living out his favorite movie line every day, “Run, Forrest, run!” A few other fun facts about Forest is that he currently holds the world record in the fastest quarter-mile run while hula-hooping at 1:31 seconds and that he is related to Milton S. Hershey from Hershey Chocolate.

Nelson’s previous work experience includes working in the Carpentry, Mechanics and Landscaping industries. But, one of the most interesting jobs that Nelson had before joining our team at ProGroup Contracting was working for a medical delivery company. In his spare time, Nelson enjoys modifying and improving cars and watching shows such as the Big Bang Theory.

When Dakota finally takes some time to relax, he enjoys watching hockey, playing golf, bringing the dogs to the beach and being the ultimate master of the grill. I’ll take a hamburger or hot dog, please!
Meet Fred, one of our Estimating Specialists. When Fred is not focused on providing and producing estimates for our Commercial and Residential clients, he likes to spend his free time cycling, spending time with his family, and although he may be ashamed to admit, watching Big Brother. After spending 30 years as an Operator in the restaurant business, and now coming over to the painting and construction world, it makes sense that the most important thing Fred has learned in the last five years is that you never know where life can take you.
“Don’t expect your dreams to come to you, go to them,” is the personal philosophy of our Project Manager, Bev-Ann Morris. Before joining our ProGroup Walgreens BDE/CET Conversion team, Bev-Ann gained over 7 years of management experience as an operations manager for multiple years and as a project manager for a construction firm. Since Lisa joined ProGroup Contracting to manage our Key Accounts, she has since advanced into a Business Development role, focusing on our Commercial Property Management clients. Lisa brings her creative love of DIY projects and creating gift baskets into customizing every relationship she has, which is why in a very short period, she has built new relationships that have continued to succeed. This may also explain that if she were given an ability she did not have, it would be “to hear people’s thoughts!” Her interpersonal skills and one of a kind personality are exactly the reasons she gives her clients exactly what they need, which goes to show when she said, “The biggest compliment I’ve received from a client was through all the craziness going on throughout their day, working with me made their life a little easier because communication was awesome and my positive and pleasant personality made their day.”
Kaleigh is our rock-star business development representative who specializes in the Education, Hospitality and Long-Term Healthcare facilities. In her three years with ProGroup Contracting, Kaleigh has managed to already win the 2016 Renovations Project of the Year Award, as well as build strong and long-lasting relationships with her various clients. Her desire to go above & beyond for each and every project she works on explains why she said, “one of my clients sent me an extremely nice email stating that ‘everyone in our organization is always helpful and responsive, and the workmanship on projects are top notch’ which made me feel like I was providing them with the best I had to give.” When asked what the most important thing she has learned in the last five years, Kaleigh says that life goes by way too fast so take advantage of what it has to offer. Say yes more, travel more, and enjoy the small things.”

Jason’s personable approach to business and his clients puts him above the rest and explains why he has been with ProGroup Contracting since 2008! Jay acts as our Sr. Vice President of Sales & Marketing, overseeing the entire National Sales & Marketing Departments, while also maintaining and growing our National Accounts business portfolio. Jason has won the National Commercial Sales Associate of the Year Award multiple times, as well as the Regional Sales Award. Jason has had a number of great customer experiences, but the one in-particular that he tends to reference is with Boston College, “where year-in and year-out, we are able to paint a Highrise Dorm within three days to accommodate their Alumni Weekend.” Before working at ProGroup, the most interesting job Jason has had was as a Paperboy “because it provided an interesting perspective of the neighborhood,” which may explain the reasoning of his favorite movie quote, “say hello to my little friend!” However, we do hope he didn’t have to actually state that quote while on his route!
If you are looking for someone who’s personal philosophy is “No one cares how much you know, until they know how much you care,” Brian Shimkus is your guy! Brian’s passion for his clients is specifically shown when he mentions that “Every year, for the last 4 years, I work with the Watertown Boys & Girls Club to complete a painting project. I work with our paint suppliers to get some or all of the paint donated to the project. Every year hundreds of kids get the support from this program and the facility always looks great. I really enjoy working with this program and they would say they love working with us.” In addition to supporting the the Watertown Boys & Girls Club, Brian has contributed his personal time and support to countless charities, non-profits and local community outreach initiatives. Most notably, he has been heavily involved in efforts for The Marion Institute, The New Bedford Public School System, Pan-Mass Challenge, Dana Faber Institute and the Boston Bruins Foundation. As our talented & well-versed, President of ProGroup National Program Services, Joann specializes in serving large commercial clients as well as clients with multiple locations. Her ability to guide clients through the most demanding and challenging projects has enabled her to build long-lasting professional relationships. After working for ProGroup for over 15 years, Joann says that a great client experiences she had was when we recently helped a client get a project completed by coordinating with a few of his other vendors and he was so happy when we made it happen that he said we were ‘better than taco’s.’ I could not think of a better compliment. Joann would hope that Julia Roberts would play her in a movie about her life, but she has some acting chops of her own, as she once appeared on Bob Vila’s, This Old House, which featured our company!
Since coming to ProGroup in June of 2017, Ashley Dusoe has performed a multitude of roles, from our Client Relations Manager, a Territory Manager and now, she is our Local Estimating Coordinator. When she is not at work, you can find Ashley at spin classes and the gym. Similar to Ashley’s favorite movie character, Dory from Finding Nemo, who often says “just keep swimming,” Ashley also enjoys being as close to the water as humanly possible!

He has over 15 years of Sales Management experience with Circuit City and Best Buy. The most important thing Eric has learned in the last five years is that, “road blocks are often just obstacles.” One positive experience and obstacle that Eric has overcome while working at ProGroup was when, “we were working with a large apartment rental company and they had a fire that totaled many units. We were able shift labor throughout the company and turn twice the units as expected that month. This allowed the tenants that were effected to move into units we just finished instead of moving to temporary housing.”

There was a Board of Trustees that were highly concerned about the potential risks involved. After convincing the Board that we could perform the work with minimal risk, they decided to award us the contract and with positive end results. They were very thankful and have awarded us future projects.” In his spare time, Peter enjoys riding his motorcycle, skiing with his family, golfing and fishing.
